Granite Creek can be fished either upstream or downstream from the trailhead, although private property will be encountered approximately 1 mile downstream. The upper 6 miles of Granite Creek travel through a steep, timbered canyon and are accessed by a fairly easy, well-maintained trail.

Granite Creek Trail (136) is an easy trail throughout most of its length, and continues on into the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness. Its greatest use comes from fishing, although backpacking and pack and saddle trips in the wilderness offer other recreational opportunities.

During Spring, Summer and Fall, The trail is in good condition. During winter, the lake is used for ice fishing. Since the lake is accessed via trail, canoes and rafts must be packed in -- use extra caution when crossing the Talus Slope. Elevation 3187.

Grouse Lake Trail (423) is a superb hike for families, this trail has only a few steep sections. It follows a creek bed most of the way and has excellent tread throughout. Even though the trail is short and close to town, the sense of remoteness is outstanding.

Happy's Inn offers 25 tent sites and 16 RV sites. Cabins, a bar, and a restaurant are available. A beach and boating may be enjoyed nearby.

Henry Lakes Trail (7) is timbered with an occasional viewing portal of the valley. Mt. Henry Lakes is a high lake which sits at the base of Henry Mountain, a small cold lake with talus rock on the back side and heavy timber on the trail side. There is a dispersed campsite at the lake.

Henry's is a Family Restaurant with 3 daily homecooked specials. We make homemade soup, pie, and cobbler! We have very friendly employee's who look forward to chatting with you. We have a very relaxed atmosphere.

Heritage Museum

The Heritage Museum is a 12-sided log structure 130' in diameter and is manned by volunteers. The exhibits portray the various peoples that came into the area - Kootenai Indians, trappers, miners, lumber men, and women.

There is adequate parking at the Waloven-Himes trailhead for 2 vehicles but turnaround space is limited. No restrooms or stock facilities are available. The trail climbs steeply for its entire length and is suitable for tugged day hikes or short backpacking trips.

The first half of Horse Mountain Snowmobile Trail is a gradual climb above Libby Creek. On the Horse Mountain road, take the first left after 0.5 mile and continue up through the clearcut. Continue 0.8 mile and turn right to the lookout.

Horse Mountain-Libby Divide Trail (716) offers a ridgetop hiking experience with many scenic vistas along the way. The trail is gentle except for the first and last 0.5 mile stretches. For more information on this trail, see Miller Creek/Libby Divide and Swamp Creek/Libby Divide.

Hoskins Lake Trail

Along Hoskins Lake Trail (162) hikers and fisherpersons gain easy access to lake fishing. There are no steep hills or hazards making this an ideal hike for small children or less experienced hikers.

This lake is located in heavily timbered, mountainous terrain. The viewing esthetics from the beach area and across the small lake offer a calm and serene experience. The local residents find it a favorite place to fish and picnic.

Howard Lake Campground is located on the Kootenai National Forest in northwest Montana. At an elevation of 4100 feet, the campground has 9 campsites. The basic facilities including restrooms and drinking water are provided.

Howard Lake Snowmobile Trail is an easy 15-mile one way trip. The main attraction is ice fishing for rainbow trout at Howard Lake.

Kenelty Mountain Lookout Trail (104) is a ridgetop trail that junctions with Divide Trail 6, providing several scenic views of the Cabinet Mountains. It is used primarily by horsemen but lends itself to average day hike and short backpacking trips.

The Koocanusa Resort and Marina offers 55 RV sites. Lake fishing, boating, a restaurant, a bar, a store and boat slips may be found here.

After crossing the Swinging Bridge, Kootenai Creek Trail (218) follows Kootenai Creek up and around the open faces above Kootenai Falls before tieing into Kootenai Mountain road. A rather steep trail, it offers excellent views of the river and falls.
