Western Montana's Blackfoot River has become one of the state's most popular and important recreational streams. It's natural setting and features, and the notoriety gained from the movie A River Runs Through It, have all contributed to its popularity.

This section of trail is only a portion of the Continental Divide Trail. The hike is easy, and the trail is in good condition. The majority of the trail is surrounded by a closed canopy of Douglas-fir and lodgepole pine. The few vistas that are offered are outstanding.

Copper Creek Campground is located in Helena National Forest at an elevation of 5300 feet. It contains 21 campsites with toilets, water and garbage removal provided. Horse corrals close by. Snowbank Lake picnic area is nearby with swimming available. Non-motorized boating on Snowbank Lake.

The Dalton Pass Snowmobile Trail is a moderately steep trail through timber. Other routes are available off this trail. Cooperative operation with Ponderosa Snow Warriors Snowmobile Club. Roadside parking.

Length: 10 miles of marked and groomed trails

The Dry Creek Trail is a moderately difficult hike. The first 3 miles are switchbacks uphill. A good day-hike with outstanding views. Trail leads into the Scapegoat Wilderness.

Gould Helmville Trail is entirely ridge top hiking. Parking is available at either end of the trail. A horse ramp is available at Dalton. Water is not available during the summer months, but any water that is used should be treated accordingly.

Hooper Park Recreation Area is located in Lincoln. Elevation: 5500. Picnic shelter. Toilets are handicapped accessible. Water available, trails and pets allowed.
