Alder Gulch

In 1863 Bill Fairweather and his party discovered gold in southwestern Montana. They were on their way to Yellowstone Country from Bannack but were waylaid by a band of Crows. While hiding from the Indians in a gulch they found gold.

Alder Gulch Short Line

The Alder Gulch Short Line is a 30-inch narrow gauge tourist railroad owned by the State of Montana. This unique railroad connects Virginia City and Nevada City with a one and a half mile mainline. Montana's only operating steam locomotive, No.12 is a fully restored 1910 Baldwin.

Bennett House Country Inn

Bennett House Country Inn, an 1879 Victorian home, is located in the the wild west town of Virginia City, Montana, just 80 miles northwest of Yellowstone National Park. Virginia City and nearby Nevada City are historically preserved mining towns of the 1860's.

Bridger Outfitters offers guided horseback rides in the mountains around historic Virginia City or a leisurely ride along the creek to Nevada City. Outfitter/Guide services include fishing and hunting.

Domenic's Main Street Cafe is in its' third year serving the visitors and locals of Virginia City. The large back bars give a warm touch to this friendly restaurant.

The Gilbert Brewery now hosts the Brewery Follies, a risquÌ_Ì__ contemporary American-burlesque-cabaret musical and skit show. Throughout the summer lines start early to view the madcap antics of this professional troupe.

Just An Experience

Just an Experience offers the finest in a home-style Bed & Breakfast with delicious food and knowledgeable, native Montana hosts. The original log house was built in 1864 and today has been remodeled and enlarged with the modern comforts of home.

Located in a preserved ghost town, this original log structure from 1864 houses the Montana Picture Gallery. We are the world's first old time photo studio. We've been doing vintage photos for over fifty years. Hundreds of Old West costumes are available.

Nevada City

Nevada City was a mining ghost town until the Bovey family restored it between 1945 and 1978. The entire town of Nevada City is a historical museum.

Sunday worship is at 11:45am. First Episcopal Church in Montana organized in April 1867 by the people of Virginia City. The first structure was built of wood and consecrated in 1868. Fire destroyed it and was rebuilt on the same site in 1902 with the present structure of native gray granite.

Stonehouse Inn is located on a quiet street. Picture yourself peacefully nestled in a century old stone house overlooking the historic gold town of Virginia City. The century seems to melt away while you relax on the porch swing and watch the sun set over Boot Hill.

The Shop at the Adobetown Schoolhouse

The one-room log schoolhouse, built in 1873 and located in historic Virginia City, Montana is now used as a gift shop. This unique shop offers handmade and old-fashion gifts.
