Patrick Ridge Trail (860) leads to a lookout that offers a panoramic view of the Tobacco Valley from Stryker and, on clear days, the snow-covered peaks of Glacier National Park. This is a strenuous hike with frequently changing topography.

Patrol Mountain Trail (213) is steep with grades of 30 percent. There is one long ford crossing Straight Creek shallow but wide. Hikers should carry their own water on this strenous hike. Obtain a copy of the Forest Visitor's to determine travel restrictions.

Pattee Canyon Complex

Set in a wooded canyon near Missoula at 4,100 feet, Pattee Canyon Recreation Area has individual family picnic sites available for free. There are 3 group sites available by reservation. The picnic area sits in a grove of big Ponderosa pines.

First 6 miles is a rough jeep road following the north side of Pattengail Creek. Rest of trail passes through lodgepole pine forest with a few meadows. Grades are gentle to moderate and tread is rocky in many area. Isolated trail with low use, open to motorcycles and ATVs.

Pearl Lake Trail (175) is a beautiful hike from below via Heart Lake or from above, on the State Line Trail. It's a true high country experience because it features a variety of habitats from wood riparian areas to high country cirque basins to subalpine meadows.

Pete Creek Snowmobile offers many open areas and excellent views of the Canadian Rockies and Northwest Peaks, which border Idaho. It follows Pete Creek and crosses the West Fork of the Yaak River.

Petty Ford Creek Trail

On Petty Ford Creek Trail (244) you should keep in mind the availability of stock water. The only reliable resources are Ford Creek and Petty Creek. Forage is readily available as the trail passes across large meadowed benches and aspen groves.

Petty Mountain Trail (8) is open to motorcycles.

Pillick Ridge Trail (1036) offers a commanding view of the Cabinet Mountains, Bull River valley, and Clark Fork valley. It is accessible to trail bikes the first 6 miles; after that the terrain makes trail bike use unsafe and destructive.

Pilot Knob Trail (1314) is the short route to Pilots Knob. At the top you can see mountain ranges all over western Montana. There are big boulders for free or technical climbing. High dry country with big Ponderosa Pine Trees. Bring water.

At the end of Road 185 is a large graveled parking area with a stock unloading ramp, hitch rails, feed bunk, and toilet at the trailhead. The Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness Boundary is just north of the trailhead. A visitor wilderness registration box and sign is near the boundary.

Pinto Point Trail (52) offers a nice day hike to the lower campsite along Big Creek road or the upper trailhead. The lower trail exits from a dispersed campsite and then climbs out of the canyon via a series of switchbacks to Maxine Point.

Pioneer Ridge Trail (734) is an excellent trail for a 1 to 3 day hike. The recommnded season of use is early summer to mid-autumn.

Placer Basin Trail (20) starts 1 mile south of Camp on the Boulder, immediately crosses a foot bridge across the Main Boulder River, traverses to the south and switchbacks and follows Hawley Creek to Breakneck Plateau, continues across East Boulder Plateau, and finally descends to Dry Fork Trail

Placid Creek - Jocko Snowmobile Trail begins at Placid Creek Road 349, Junction O, and continues to junction with Beaver-Finley Creek Road 9974, Junction N. This is a good family trail. Not groomed on a regular basis.

Porcupine Basin Trail begins on the north side of Beaver Creek Road 4106 and is signed. Hiking along a side hill there are few glimpses of the Beaver Creek Road 4106 and mountain to the south. The trail is under a forest canopy until reaching the talus slope.

An ideal trail for day hikers and extended trips out of Potosi Campground.

The Prickly Nevada Trail climbs south through conifers to the junction with Trail 467 on the ridge, and continues south to Forest Road 296 (Nevada Creek Road).
