Shanley Ridge Trail (401) is an access trail to the Youngs Creek drainage in the Bob Marshall, from the Cottonwood Creek Road. It's west of Monture Creek at the end of a road with a seasonal closure.

Sheep Creek Ski Trail follows Miller Loop snowmobile trail for first mile. This trail is not groomed.

Sheep Creek Trail (127) starts 0.5 mile north of Independence and travel to Hellroaring Divide. It ascends a ridge between Sheep Creek and Copper Creek and traverses its length to the Divide, providing scenic views. It provides access to Hellroaring Creek on the Gardiner Ranger District.

Sheep Park Trail is a short trail that connects Trails 115 and 117. This trail provides hikers and campers with opportunities for loops or access to other trails.

Shields River/Smith Creek Snowmobile Trail crosses private property, please stay on trail. Cooperative operation with Park County, Big Sky Snowriders and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Parking at Smith Creek Turnoff on private property; parking capacity for 5 cars.

Parking at plowed lot on Highway 43. Shoofly Ski Trail starts on north side of highway; accesses Hogan Rental Cabin. More difficult trail, no grooming. The Shoofly cut-off trail is 1.5 miles long and provides an easier route around the steepest portions of the Shoofly.

Shultz - Johnson Snowmobile Trail begins at the Placer Creek Road. Intermittantly groomed trail to Shultz Saddle. The trail continues over the pass onto the Sula District, but is not marked or groomed beyond the pass.

Silver Butte Creek Trail (296) is suitable for rugged day hikes and short or extended backpacking trips. Trail 296 passes a shallow, unnamed lake 3 miles from the trailhead.

Winter lovers will enjoy Silver Crest Ski Trail and its 13.8 km of groomed ski trails and 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, 7 miles south of Neihart. All trails create a loop that begin and end at the Kings Hill Recreation Area parking lot off Highway 89 southeast of Great Falls.

Silver Lake Trail (149) begins at the junction with Fourmile Trail 22 and travels to Silver Lake. Steep and rocky.

Silver Run Ski Trail is a one-way mountain touring trail with 4 loops. The range of difficulty on this ski trail depends on snow conditions. This trail is not groomed. The trail is closed to snowmobiles.

Sinclair Creek Trail (88) is one of the most popular and shortest routes to the Ten Lakes Scenic Area, and to access the Highline trail on the east side of the Galton Mountain Range.

Skelton Creek Trail (1078) makes a nice day hike. About halfway, the trail passes through a winter range area for wildlife. The lower mile of the trail parallels the West Fork Pilgrim Creek road rather closely, weaving through a densely timbered area.

Skinner Meadows/Bloody Dick Trail Snowmobile leads over the Big Hole Divide to Reservoir Lake. Marked, not groomed. Maps available at District Office or Big Hole Battlefield. Outhouses available at Reservoir Lake and South Van Houten Lake.

Skookum Butte Trail (304) is a short trail that switchbacks up to the old lookout. It features views of Lolo Creek and the Graves Range. In the winter the Elk Meadows Road is closed to vehicle traffic for snowmobile use. Then the road becomes part of the snowmobile network.

Skyland Road Snowmobile Trail is a cooperative operation with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and Cut Bank Snowmobile Club. Parking capacity for 30 vehicles.

The Skyline Trail System is part of the National Recreation Trail System and provides hikers or horsemen an excellent opportunity to view wildlife. The trail length and numerous camping spots make this an ideal 2-day hike. For additional access, see West Fork Quartz Creek Trail 13.1.

Slagamelt Trail is open to ATVs after July 15.
