Old Faithful Geyser

Old Faithful is undoubtedly the world's best-known geyser and most publicized natural phenomenon of any sort. It is the most consistent geyser in all of Yellowstone Park. Its heights, intervals, and lengths of eruption have varied very little in the past 100 years.

Old Faithful Visitor Center features exhibits that explain and predict geyser eruptions. A short, informative film on geothermal features is shown throughout the day. Information and bookstore on site.

Pebble Creek Campground is located in the northeast corner of Yellowstone Park--southwest of Cooke City at an elevation of 6,900 feet. Restrooms and water are provided, and there are 32 campsites to choose from. Activities in the area include fishing and hiking.

The Pebble Creek Trail travels through a glacial valley lined with rugged peaks rising to over 10,000 feet. The valley is mostly forest with lodgepole pine, Engleman spruce and subalpine fir. There are some extensive meadow areas in the upper Pebble Creek valley.

Rescue Creek Trail travels from the Trailhead on the Mammoth-Tower Road to the trailhead located about 1 mile south of the North Entrance Station. From the Blacktail Trailhead, the route follows the Blacktail Creek Trail for the first 0.75 of a mile.

The Skyline Trail provides the best prolonged dose of mountain scenery in Yellowstone. As it follows the boundary ridge of the park the trail offers exciting views of mountain ranges in all directions, as well as traveling to the summit of two mountains itself.

Slough Creek Campground is located in the northeast portion of Yellowstone National Park at an elevation of 6,250 feet. Restrooms and water are provided, and there are 29 designated campsites to choose from. Activities in the area include fishing and hiking.

The Specimen Creek Trail offers good opportunities to see wildlife. Elk are gathered in this valley from October to June, Moose may be seen anytime along the creek and bighorn sheep frequent the slopes of Meldrum Mountain

Tower Fall Campground is located in the Washburn Range in Yellowstone's northeast portion at an elevation of 6,600 feet. There are 32 designated campsites. Activities in the area include fishing, hiking, and horseback riding. Campfire talks are also available to visitors.

Trilobite Lake is a beautiful little lake, set in the cirque of Mt. Holmes, Trilobite Ridge and Dome Mountain. This trip is a good, but long day hike or an even better overnight trip. Start at the Mount Holmes Trailhead and follow the Winter Creek/ Mt.

The Upper/Lower Terraces of the world-famous Mammoth Hot Springs are an excellent example of the living geology seen throughout the Park. Hot water transports a form of limestone to the surface where it is deposited like sugar frosting to build and decorate the terraces.

This western portion of Yellowstone Lake is called West Thumb Thermal Area, which consists of lake shore geysers, hot springs, and bubbling paint pots. Follow the signs along the constructed walks for a view of all the many thermal features.
