During winter, two to six feet of snow blanket Tom Miner Basin and surrounding mountainsides. It is during this quiet season that the B Bar Ranch opens for lodging and guests. Reservations are available from mid-December through February.
Big Mountain Nordic Center offers over 16 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, groomed for both classic and skate skiing. Two and a half kilometers of trail are rated easiest, 8.5 kilometers rated more difficult, and 5 kilometers rated most difficult.

Mile High Nordic Ski Club, in cooperation with the Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks and the Bureau of Land Management has established over 25 kilometers of ski trails that reach to the Continental Divide.
Red Lodge Nordic Center is nestled at the base of Beartooth Mountains only three miles away from downtown Red Lodge. Ski from Thanksgiving through March on 15 km of machine groomed trails, from open meadow trails to rolling loops through the Aspen trees.
Rendezvous Ski Trails are operated and maintained by the West Yellowstone Chamber of Commerce. This Nordic trail system winds 42 km through the Gallatin National Forest next to Yellowstone National Park.
