Virgelle Merc & Missouri River Canoe Company

Missouri River Canoe Company is located at Virgelle, a restored homestead - era settlement in a remote setting on the Upper Missouri National Wild & Scenic River. Our headquarters in the historic Virgelle Mercantile offers a variety of outfitting options for canoe trips on the Missouri, from canoe/kayak rentals, to fully outfitted trips including canoes, shuttle, food, and camping gear, to complete guided expeditions. The Missouri is a flat water river, easily navigable by beginners, and geologically and historically rich enough to intrigue experienced river enthusiasts. This is a quiet calm, remote river, offering the ultimate relaxing getaway. You can camp where Lewis and Clark camped and read their journal entries describing the terrain and their experiences there. Explore long abandoned homesteads and wood hawk cabins to get a sense of the tough beginnings of white settlement of the West.

Before and/or after your river trip, we offer historic accommodations in Virgelle. Choose from an authentic homestead experience in comfortable but primitive homestead cabins or be catered to in our lovely Bed and Breakfast rooms upstairs in the Mercantile.
