The Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area, covering 920,310 acres, is an administrated unit of the Gallatin National Forest, Custer National Forest and the Shoshone National Forest. The Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness derives it's name from the Absaroka and Beartooth Mountain Ranges.

Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness

The Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness is a 158,516-acre wilderness of rugged mountains saddling the Continental Divide located in southwestern Montana approximately 22 miles west of Anaconda, Montana.

Bear Trap Canyon Wilderness

Located along the Madison River in southwest Montana the Bear Trap Canyon Wilderness is the Bureau of Land Management's first designated wilderness area including six thousand acres of wilderness on the Madison River.

Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex

The Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex is an administrated unit of the Flathead National Forest, the Lewis and Clark National Forest, Lolo National Forest and the Helena National Forest.

Cabinet Mountains Wilderness-USFS

The Cabinet Mountains Wilderness occupies the higher reaches of the northern Cabinet Range southwest of Libby. A narrow line of snowcapped peaks, glacial lakes, valleys cut by icy streams, and cascading waterfalls runs north to south for 40 serpentine, up-an-down miles.

The Gates of the Mountains Wilderness Area, covering 28,562 acres (38 mile stretch of river), is an administrated unit of Helena National Forest, located within or adjacent to that Forest.

The 285,771 acre Great Bear Wilderness is located in northern Montana just south of Glacier National Park and northwest of the Bob Marshall Wilderness in the Flathead National Forest.

The Lee Metcalf Wilderness Area, covering 248,944 acres, is an administered unit of the Gallatin National Forest and the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, located within or adjacent to those forests.

The Medicine Lake Wilderness Area, covering 11,366 acres, is an administrated unit of Medicine Lake National Wildlife Refuge, located within or adjacent to that Wildlife Refuge. Contact the Medicine Lake National Wildlife Refuge for additional information.

Mission Mountains Wilderness Complex

The Mission Mountain Range is the gateway to the Mission Mountain Wilderness Area, a 73,877-acre paradise for hiking, camping and fishing. An area of outstanding scenic beauty--rugged, snowcapped peaks, several small glaciers, alpine lakes, meadows and clear cold streams.

Rattlesnake Recreation Area and Wilderness

With the major trailhead only 4.5 miles north of Missoula, the 61,000 acres of glaciated topography in the Rattlesnake Wilderness and National Recreation Area (RWNRA) form Montana's premier urban wilderness, blending the best of both wilderness and civilization.

The Scapegoat Wilderness Area, covering 239,296 acres, is an administrative unit of the Lewis and Clark, Lolo and Helena National Forests located within those forests. Primitive Camping is allowed with no Public facilities. Call Lewis and Clark National Forest for camping information.

Hundreds of peaks separate more than thirty rugged drainages for nearly 90 miles along a dramatic mountain front stretching from the South Fork of Lolo Creek south to where rocky ridges break abruptly into the West Fork of the Bitterroot River.

The 29,135-acres Welcome Creek area is a true wilderness experience. The densely forested slopes, exposed ridges, and deep canyons of this heart-shaped Wilderness contribute to an all-too-rare example of relatively low elevation general forest to the National Wilderness System.
