The greatest loss of life in hardrock mining history ocurred in Butte on June 8, 1917, when 168 men died in the tragic Spec Fire Disaster.

Lewis and Clark Memorial

The State of Montana's Lewis and Clark Memorial resides on Fort Benton's steamboat levee next to the Missouri River. The memorial of Lewis, Clark, and Sacagawea with infant son was done by Bob Scriver, a renowned western artist.

Montana Pro Rodeo Hall and Wall of Fame

A committee was formed in 1998 to establish a permanent memorial to Montana professional cowboys and cowgirls who achieve national recognition in the sport of rodeo. The Montana Pro Rodeo Hall and Wall of Fame was formed to honor the achievements of Montana professional rodeo participants.
