Activities
The Butte District of the Bureau of Land Management manages about 1.4 million acres of public land scattered throughout western Montana between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. We manage forests, selling timber on a sustained yield basis, manage range land under some 950 grazing leases, and perform numerous other land managing activities in such areas as mineral development, cultural resources preservation and management, and realty, e.g. consolidating public ownership of land through land trades and issuing rights of way. In addition, the district has an active recreation program that offers visitors opportunities for camping, hiking, boating, cross country skiing and many other outdoor activities. Camping ad other facilities are located throughout the district.
